Panasonic Toughbook CF-52 running a Kodak 120 GB SSD MBR Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 with an unknown brand of SSD MBR Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 on a PNY 250 GB SSD MBR I will continue to troubleshoot the issue but here is the facts as I know them so far, IF anyone has ANY ideas I would love to hear them.

Even if I hand load from 21H1, as soon as it does KB5003637, the first quality update or the first security update it blows the OS away and changes it to RAW. I thought maybe it was one of my images bad in some way but I hand loaded one of these units and the same issue occurred as soon as it got to 20H2. I am sad to see that others are having this problem. I was going to post the question on MS but I just have no faith it will get a response that would mean anything. I may try that next but the issue takes SO much time because I have to restore my Acronis image each time and it takes a while, it's not something I can setup and just walk away from I have to intervene at different places. I have NOT tested this using a regular HDD. I even tried turning off write caching thinking maybe Windows Update was rebooting the drives before they finished writing but nope, still happens.

The only thing in common these units have had is SSD, MBR and Windows 10 20H2 or 21H1. THAT WORKS, that gets the machines to 21H1 but you would think at that point the issue is resolved, WRONG, if you then again run Windows update and if it installs either the Quality Update OR the Security Update for 21H1, or KB5003637 it blows the OS drive away after the reboot and the OS Partition is back to RAW in the very same state as mentioned above.

I was able to get all of the before mentioned machines successfully upgraded to 21H1 but the way I had to do it was taking the unit OFFLINE and running Windows setup on 21H1 from a USB key and keeping it offline for the entire Win10 Upgrade to 21H1. The only solution I have for the moment is to FULLY DISABLE Windows Update. I thought it was just the Panasonic Toughbook CF31 units but then the same issue happened to me yesterday on an HP DV6 also running MBR. Windows update is doing something that is causing the machines to get blown away.

It is NOT from failing hardware or anything hardware wrong at all. I have now found a connection, it appears to be units running the MBR Partition scheme on Windows 10 20H2 or 21H1. I have been troubleshooting this for months. To fix it I have to make a GPT Partition and then make a MBR Partition to be able to even restore an image on the SSD, You can N E V E R recover the bootsector and you will NEVER get those SSD's to boot again. You can run a chkdsk /F on the OS Partition and SOME OF THE TIME you can get the filletable back but not always. If you check the partitions with a Partition Manager like MiniTool the OS Partition has been changed to RAW but in ADDITION the boot partition is partially over written so you can NOT recover and make the disk bootable again ever. It updates successfully but then it reboots and you can no longer boot. It is going to Windows update and KB5003637 is one of them but the quality update and the security update also causes this issue. I am having this VERY SAME issue with some Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 units and now an HP DV6 unit running Windows 10 20H2 or 21H1. First off this is absolutely NOT a HARDWARE ISSUE at ALL.
